WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PLAY GIRLS’ SOFTBALL?

Girls ages 7 through 18 (age as of December 31 of the preceding year) who live or attend school in the Madison West, Madison Memorial and Middleton-Cross Plains high school attendance areas can play in our league. The player must satisfy both provisions to be eligible. Under National Little League rules, players can participate in only one little league program at a time. If you live and attend school outside WMLL boundaries AND are in an area with no official Little League program, contact WMLL to review your possible eligibility.

New Residency Regulation: Players who live outside WMLL boundaries, as described above, but attend a school located within WMLL boundaries, are now eligible to play at WMLL (including full eligibility for tournament team play). Players are still restricted to playing in one little league program at a time.

WHAT IS THE LEAGUE STRUCTURE?

Players are drafted into leagues based on age and skill level, as outlined on the Leagues pages (see note below). Based on registration numbers, some players may be drafted up to the next older league. Ages are based on age as of 12-31-16  for the 2017 season.
Note:  Rookie League may be offered if registration numbers are adequate.  If not, ages 7, 8 & 9 will be paired in the Minor Lg and ages 10, 11 & 12 in the Major Lg.

WHERE/WHEN ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?

Minor, Major, & Junior Leagues — Jefferson Middle School Softball Diamonds and possibly diamonds located in Verona, East Madison, & Kennedy Little Leagues (depending upon the status of interleague play for the upcoming season).

Senior & Big Leagues — Jefferson Middle School Softball Diamonds and other area little league fields (if these programs are offered).

Season play begins in mid-May for Rookie, Minor and Major Lgs and concludes by the end of July. Each team will have practices, as well. Junior (and Senior and Big Leagues, if offered) begin at a later date (usually after the high school season has ended).

HOW DO YOU REGISTER & WHAT DOES IT COST?

Registration is done online through WMLL’s Online Registration system from 1/1/17 through 2/28/17. The system can be accessed via the WMLL website. All registrations (except some scholarship requests) must be paid at the end of the online registration process. WMLL accepts credit cards, debit cards and e-checks for your convenience. Use of e-checks saves WMLL costs in processing payments, so please consider that option.

Everyone who plans to play at WMLL in 2017 must submit a completed registration form via the online system. Registration begins January 1, 2017 and the deadline is February 28, 2017, in order to be guaranteed a roster spot on a team. Late registrations are NOT guaranteed a spot on a team if leagues are full. These players will be placed on a waiting list in the order the registrations were received. There is a $5.00 fee to be placed on the official waiting list for each league (this fee covers the processing fees from our online provider and is not refundable).

The fee for each player is $180 ($130 for Rookie Lg, if offered), if registration is submitted online by the end of the day on February 5, 2017. Fee is $205 ($155 for Rookie Lg) if registering AFTER Feb 5, 2017. There is a $50 discount per player for the third or more players from same family. All fees must be paid online at time of registration. Scholarships are available for players who are eligible for free or reduced lunch at their school. Parents may submit scholarship requests at the end of the online registration process. WMLL reserves the right to verify eligibility with player’s school. A minimum player fee of $50 will be required of all scholarship applicants.

WHAT ABOUT REFUND REQUESTS?

Check the league calendar on this website for the current season deadlines for requesting refunds. Basically, refunds will be granted if requested prior to these deadlines, which are a day or two prior to league drafts (4-2-17). NO refunds will be granted after the draft except for injuries or families moving away from the area. Although there are no drafts for the WMLL Fall Ball season, refunds will NOT be granted after the deadline (8-1-17) as the team rosters will be set by that date. In all cases, $10 will be deducted from any refund to cover our online provider’s processing fee.

CAN YOU REQUEST TO BE ON A TEAM WITH A SIBLING OR FRIEND?

Players from the same family will be placed on the same team if the individuals are in the same league. However, parents may request that siblings be placed on different teams. For 2017, you may request to be placed on a team with one friend (buddy) at the Rookie (if offered) and Minor league levels only.  Each player MUST indicate the friend they wish to play with on their online registration application and players must match on each other’s application. Limit of one buddy per player.

WHAT IS THE SKILLS SESSION AND WHO IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND?

The skills session is designed to promote parity among our teams by giving coaches an opportunity to see players prior to the league drafts. Our aim is to have well-balanced, competitive teams.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE FOR THE SKILLS SESSION AND WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING?

All registered softball players ages 7-12 must attend a skills evaluation session on Saturday,  April 1, 2017, at the Memorial High School Field House (201 South Gammon Road).
