Update on the 2020 spring/summer season

Last week Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) released Forward Dane, a phased reopening plan for Dane County during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yesterday, PHMDC announced that, based on active monitoring of the data-based metrics outlined in the plan, Dane County will move into Phase 1 of the reopening plan on Tuesday, May 26. As part of Phase 1, all public courts and fields are open with physical distancing required at all times between individuals not from the same household or living unit.

The WMLL Board has been closely following not only PHMDC restrictions & recommendations, but also recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Little League International & other relevant sources. WMLL has also initiated a dialogue with seven other Dane County youth baseball & softball leagues & arranged a conversation between this group & PHMDC to specifically discuss when & how to safely resume youth baseball & softball in Dane County. This conversation will take place on Tuesday, May 26. Later that same day, the WMLL Board COVID-19 task force will meet to further discuss the situation.

While the Board remains hopeful & continues to plan for a meaningful season, we are NOT changing the current suspension of all in-person WMLL activities – including in-person meetings or practices by WMLL teams.

We all look forward to beginning practicing & playing ball as soon as it is safe & responsible to do so. The Board will provide another update next week. Until then, please take care and stay safe.

Thank you for your patience & cooperation!
