Who is eligible to play baseball?
Any child (girls & boys) between the ages of 7 and 16 who lives or attends school in the Madison West, Madison Memorial or Middleton-Cross Plains high school attendance areas. The player must satisfy both provisions (age and residency or school attendance) to be eligible. Under National Little League rules, players can participate in only one little league program at a time. If you live and attend school outside WMLL boundaries, AND are in an area with no official Little League program, contact WMLL to review your possible eligibility.

To determine a child’s age for WMLL and Little League Baseball, locate the birth month and year and then refer to the “Age” column which is farthest to the right. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPECIFIC IMPACT ON EACH AGE GROUP
Expanded Residency Regulation: Players who live outside WMLL boundaries, as described above, but attend a school located within WMLL boundaries, are now eligible to play at WMLL (including full eligibility for tournament team play). Players are still restricted to playing in one little league program at a time.
What is the league structure for baseball?
Players are placed into leagues based upon their WMLL age; however, for some leagues, parental requests, player skill level, and the number of registrants is considered, as well. See the Leagues pages for details.
Where are the games played?
All games are played on the WMLL diamonds at 701 Forward Drive, just north of Schroeder Road and adjacent to the Channel 15 (WMTV) TV tower. The property is made available to the league through the generosity of NBC-TV 15. The only exception to the game location is in cases of extreme number of rainouts, where games may be played at alternative fields in an effort to get them all in.
How can a child register to play?
Registration is done online through WMLL’s Online Registration system, starting 1/1/18 through 2/28/18. The system can be accessed via the WMLL homepage. All registrations (except some scholarship requests) must be paid at the end of the online registration process. WMLL accepts credit cards, debit cards and e-checks for your convenience. Use of e-checks saves WMLL costs in processing payments, so please consider that option.
Everyone who plans to play at WMLL in 2018 must submit a completed registration form via the online system. As noted above, registration begins on January 1, 2018 and the deadline is Feb 28, 2018, in order to be guaranteed a roster spot on a team. Late registrations are NOT guaranteed a spot on a team. If leagues are full, these players will be placed on a waiting list in the order the registrations were received. There is a $5.00 fee to be placed on the official waiting list for each league (this fee covers the processing fees from our online provider and is not refundable).
What does it cost to play Baseball?
The fee for each player for the spring/summer baseball season is $250 (see note below*), if registration is submitted online by the end of the day on Feb 4, 2018 ($275 if registering after Feb 4, 2018). There is a $50 discount per player for the third or more players from the same family. All fees must be paid online at time of registration. Scholarships are available for players who are eligible for free or reduced lunch at their school. Parents may submit scholarship requests at the end of the online registration process. A $75 minimum player fee will apply to all scholarship requests.
(*Note: For the 2018 spring/summer season, the fees noted above include a pre-payment for a $2 post-game player snack from the concession stand after every game, including playoff games. This program has been tested out over the past 4 seasons and has been a great success. It primarily reduces the workload for our parent volunteer Team Reps at the start of the season.)
What about Refund Requests?
Regular Season Refunds — Check the league calendar on this website for the current season deadlines for requesting refunds (generally the Sunday before the League Drafts for the summer program…..March 18 for 2018). Refunds will be granted if requested prior to these deadlines. NO refunds will be granted after the drafts begin, except for injuries or families moving away from the area. In all cases, $10 will be deducted from any refund to cover our online provider’s processing fee.
Fall Ball Refunds — Although there are no drafts for the WMLL Fall Ball season, no refunds will be granted after the deadline (8-1-18), except for injuries or families moving away from the area, as the team rosters will be formed by that date. In all cases, $10 will be deducted from any refund to cover our online provider’s processing fee.
Are players “cut” after registration?
No. Once a player’s registration is accepted by the deadline (2/28/18), there are no “cuts”. Everyone gets to play on a team. A skills evaluation session for 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 year-olds is designed to promote parity among the teams by giving coaches an opportunity to see players prior to the league drafts. Player applicants from the same family will be placed on the same team if the individuals are in the same league, unless the parents request that they not be on the same team. No requests will be honored to place friends and/or neighbors on the same team during regular season play.
When do we play?
2018 League play begins Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, for all leagues except the Senior League, which begins May 25. The season concludes by the middle to end of July, depending on the league. Each team plays or practices on weekdays, as well as weekends. Practices begin in April, as weather permits, and based on the coach’s availability. Continuing in 2018, the Major baseball league (11-12’s) will alternate “weekends off” throughout the season. A similar format will also include the Atlantic Lg (7-8’s)and Pacific Lg (9-10’s) alternating, When one league is off, the other league will play games on both Saturday and Sunday. The Badger Lg (13-14’s) will also alternate “weekends off” throughout the 2018 season, similar to the Major League.
Who must attend the Skills Session?
The skills session is required for all baseball players up thru the 12-year-old age level. Players age 13 and older do not attend the skills session and are drafted onto teams based on past season evaluations. We must confirm ages, so please be sure to enter the correct birthdate during the online registration process.
7 and 8-year-old players and players new to WMLL for the regular season must bring an official birth certificate (or copy) to the skills session in order for the individual to be allowed to play this season.
